The High Court ruled that the British government had not acted unlawfully in deciding to strip Prince Harry of his police protection.
Much of the court proceedings were held in private, with no public or media presence due to security measures.
He was deprived of police protection
Prince Harry and his wife Megan Markle were deprived of the police protection afforded to members of the Royal family in the UK after they resigned their official Royal duties in 2020 and moved to the US.
In February 2020, the UK Home Office decided that Prince Harry would no longer receive personal police protection while in the UK, even if he paid for it himself.
Lawyers for the ministry had opposed allowing wealthy people to “buy security” from the police.
He complained about excessive media attention and follow-up
Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, also died in 1997 in a car accident while being chased by paparazzi in Paris, France.
Harry had also complained about the excessive media attention and follow-up in the process of withdrawing from his royal duties in January 2020 and moving to California with his wife Meghan to live a more independent life.
In an interview in February 2021, Prince Harry stated that the British press, which he described as “toxic”, had ruined his mental health and that he feared “history repeating itself” due to the intense interest shown to his wife like his mother Diana.
