Putin’s ‘Doomsday’ plane to protect occupants from nuclear blast
The Ilyushin Il-80 is designed to serve as a command center for the Russian president in the event of a nuclear war and can be used by Russian officials. It is one of four aircraft that can withstand electromagnetic pulses and has few windows to protect its passengers from a nuclear blast.
The Russian president has repeatedly threatened to use his nuclear arsenal against the West if NATO continues to provide military assistance to Ukraine. “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will absolutely use all available means to protect Russia and our people. This is not a bluff,” Putin stated recently.
