Putin said that Moscow supports Beijing’s “One China” policy, opposes US “provocations” in the Taiwan Strait, and that Russia values China’s “balanced position” on Ukraine.
“Attempts to create a unipolar world have recently taken an absolutely ugly form and are completely unacceptable,” Putin said, directly targeting the United States, Al Jazeera reported.
The two leaders held their first face-to-face meeting since the Ukraine war on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan.
Putin, who is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Uzbekistan, also met with Iranian President Ibrahim Reisi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhammedov and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.
The SCO was established in 1996 when representatives of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan met in Shanghai, China and signed the Agreement on Deepening Military Confidence in Border Areas.
Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and India joined the organization, bringing the number of full members to eight.
Iran joined the SCO as an observer member in 2005, and its full membership process was launched in September 2021.
Turkey is a dialogue partner in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
