Autonomous vehicles involved in nearly 400 accidents in the US

It was reported that autonomous vehicles were involved in nearly 400 accidents in the US between July last year and mid-May this year. Tesla brand vehicles took the first place in the list with 273 accidents in about a year.

According to the report shared on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it was stated that Tesla vehicles were involved in 273 of the 367 accidents since July 2021 among vehicles with auto-pilot application.

Among the automobile manufacturers that reported all accident records to NHTSA during the year, the second company whose vehicles were involved in the most accidents after Tesla was Honda with 90 accidents and the third was Subaru with 10 accidents, while the three states with the most accidents were California (125), Florida (34) and Texas (33), respectively.

While Tesla has around 830 thousand vehicles with automatic driving systems in the US, there are nearly 6 million vehicles belonging to Honda in the same category on the country’s highways.

It was recorded that 5 people lost their lives and 6 people were seriously injured in accidents involving these vehicles.

In June 2021, NHTSA instructed more than 100 automakers and automated vehicle technology companies to report serious accidents within one day at the latest and minor accidents by the 15th of the following month.
