According to the official Kyodo agency, the management of the “Sanrio Puroland” theme park in the Tama district, west of the capital, received an e-mail titled “dangerous”.
The e-mail, described as a “terrorist threat”, warned that a “dangerous object has been placed” in the theme park area.
The e-mail was reported to the security forces by the park management. In the report, it was stated that a “terrorist threat” was suspected.
“We are temporarily closed as we cannot fully ensure the safety of customers, players and on-site staff,” Sanrio Puroland’s website said.
Police officers dispatched to the area searched the theme park and found no suspicious objects.
According to state broadcaster NHK, law enforcement authorities are investigating the source of the email, which warned of a “dangerous object”.
The indoor theme park for both children and adults, featuring many Sanrio cartoon characters, including “Hello Kitty”, was opened in December 1990.
