This protocol paved the way for the country to take steps to produce new generation passenger planes. In particular, Japan will work to design hydrogen-fueled passenger planes, but hybrid systems are also on the table.
Japan has created a 33 billion dollar fund for the next generation passenger aircraft. This fund will be spent over the next 10 years. According to statements from Japanese officials, the new generation aircraft will be completed by 2035. Japan’s Economy Minister Kazuchika Iwata said that with this kind of project, Japan will go beyond producing spare parts in the aviation industry.
Japan wants to become a carbon neutral country by 2050
The main reason for Japan to implement such an ambitious project is that it wants to become a carbon neutral country by 2050. There is an important detail at this point.
