The US government has announced that the Chinese video sharing app TikTok will face a possible ban in the country if it is not sold
The app, owned by Chinese company Bytedance, is accused of posing a threat to national security thanks to its access to the data of millions of people.
According to the news first reported in the Wall Street Journal, the US announced that the app must change hands or face a ban in the country.

A TikTok spokesperson said the report was exaggerated and it was unclear what “divestment” meant in practice.
“If the goal is to protect national security, divestment does not solve the problem. A change in ownership does not impose any new restrictions on data flows or access.”
