China reacts to the inclusion of 17 Chinese companies in the US sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine war.
In a statement made by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, it was stated that Washington overstepped its jurisdiction with unilateral sanctions and argued that the decision was a “typical example of economic bullying”.
According to the statement, China will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its companies.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told a press conference in Beijing that China is taking an objective and neutral stance on the Ukraine crisis, trying to promote peace talks and play a constructive role for a political solution.
Spokesperson Mao emphasized that normal trade and economic cooperation between China and Russia is neither targeted at nor subject to interference by third parties, and that China opposes the imposition of illegal sanctions on Chinese companies for this reason.
Ahead of the second anniversary of the start of the Russia-Ukraine War, on February 23, the US placed 9 Chinese companies on the sanctions list and imposed export restrictions on 8 Chinese companies on the grounds that they traded products that could provide military support to Russia in the Ukraine War.
