On Wednesday, a new ‘Superman’ movie project was announced, written by DC Studios’ new co-president James Gunn. But this time Henry Cavill will not be in the lead role.
According to IndieWire, the new ‘Superman’ will focus on a young Clark Kent when he first arrives in Metropolis. It is not yet clear who will direct the movie. As for whether Henry Cavill will return as Superman, it will be someone other than Cavill in the lead role as the movie focuses on a younger hero. Cavill confirmed the news on Instagram shortly after news of a new Superman movie broke, saying “my turn to wear the cape has passed.”
Can continue to operate with DC
However, IndieWire speculates that Gunn and Peter Safran recently met with Cavill and gave him the possibility that the door was open for him to continue working with DC in the future. However, it is not yet clear what Cavill’s role in DC Studios’ future will be.
This isn’t the only meeting with Henry Cavill that Gunn and Safran have had. Ben Affleck is also reportedly in talks with Gunn and Safran to direct a future DC movie, but at this stage it is unclear what project he will be involved in. Gunn and Safran recently met with Warner Bros. – Discovery president David Zaslav to outline their plans and are now hiring a group of writers and directors for their various projects. They are expected to be ready to give more details about the first installment of movies and TV projects under the DC Studios banner in early January.
4 DC movies will be released in 2023
Looking ahead, DC still has a handful of movies from the previous regime still coming through 2023. These movies include “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash” with Ezra Miller, “Blue Beetle” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” Whether or not any of these movies or series will impact the future of DC and its cinematic universe remains to be seen.
