Another 20 Palestinians in Israeli prisons started a hunger strike to protest the Tel Aviv administration’s “administrative detention” practice.

According to the written statement made by the Palestinian Prisoners Society, the number of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli prisons has reached 50 with 20 more Palestinians going on hunger strike.

No information was given about the prisons where these 20 Palestinians, including administrative detainees and prisoners, are staying.

On the other hand, it was reminded that 30 Palestinian prisoners, who have been on hunger strike for 15 days to protest Israel’s “administrative detention” practice, boycotted Israeli courts at various levels.

Hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners

On September 25, 30 Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s Ofer Prison went on hunger strike to protest the Tel Aviv administration’s “administrative detention” practice.

The 30 Palestinians, members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), opposed Israel’s practice of “administrative detention” and declared that they “want to regain their freedom and their families”.

“Administrative detention” means that Israel arrests Palestinians in the occupied territories without charge.

Palestinians can be imprisoned for up to 6 months without being informed of the charges against them and without the right to defend themselves. After this period, a Palestinian who is referred to a military court but is unaware of the charges can be repeatedly detained for up to 5 years.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners Society, there are 4,650 Palestinians in Israeli prisons, 780 of whom are “administrative detainees”.
