Putin said that all the grain from Ukraine was shipped to the European Union, not to low-income countries, and that low-income countries were losing access to food because of this
Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok that changes to the shipment route set out in the grain corridor agreement should be considered.
Putin said Russia was doing its best to resume grain shipments through Ukraine’s occupied ports.
Stating that the problems in the global food market are likely to increase, Putin said that a humanitarian catastrophe is approaching.
Putin said that all of the grain leaving Ukraine was being shipped to the European Union, not to low-income countries, and that low-income countries were losing access to food.
The “grain corridor” agreement was signed between Turkey, the United Nations, Russia and Ukraine at a meeting in Istanbul on July 22.
Under the agreement, grain ships leaving Ukrainian ports sail through the Black Sea to Istanbul, where they are inspected by a delegation and then continue their route.
