Highest value measured in Duisburg This is how hot it is in Germany

The heat wave is hitting Europe with full force. Record high temperatures are also threatening Germany. Some measuring stations are already approaching the 40-degree mark. How hot is it in your region? The current weather data at a glance.

Blazing hot wind as if from an oven, stinging sun, parched landscapes: The summer of 2022 will bring Germany more than just the usual seasonal day and night temperatures. The current heat wave could also exceed previous records in this country. As already expected by ntv weather expert Björn Alexander, it became the warmest day of the year so far.

The highest temperature of the day was measured in Duisburg-Baerl. The German Weather Service (DWD) confirmed a peak of 39.5 degrees there. Tönisvorst on the Lower Rhine near Krefeld followed with 39.2 degrees. Hohenbostel in the town of Barsinghausen near Hanover was behind with 39.1 degrees. In many other places, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, temperatures of over 38 degrees were reached. The temperature record in Germany was thus not reached – on 25 July 2019, 41.2 degrees Celsius were measured at the stations in Duisburg and Tönisvorst.

The German Meteorological Service (DWD) operates a dense network of hundreds of measuring stations, observation points and weather stations, where data on the current weather situation is collected and collated, in some cases fully automatically, around the clock. The tasks of the DWD meteorologists are regulated by law: As the “national weather service”, the authority with its headquarters in Offenbach, Hesse, not only collects weather data for the general public, but also provides special weather forecasts, such as for shipping, energy supply or the aviation weather service.
