President Erdogan: Penalties for crimes against women will be increased further

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is holding a press conference at IFEMA Congress Center after the NATO Leaders Summit.

Here are the headlines from President Erdoğan’s statements:

I greet you with my most heartfelt feelings. We have completed the Madrid NATO Summit. I would like to express my gratitude to all Spanish authorities for their hospitality. I would also like to thank Mr. Stioltenberg and his team.

This is the third time this year that we have come together at the leaders’ level. It was an important opportunity to build a vision for the future. Our support for Ukraine is essential. All our efforts are for the declaration of a permanent ceasefire. At the first session of the summit yesterday, Ukrainian President Zelensky addressed us via video message. We are in regular contact with Zelensky and Putin. Unfortunately, the longer the conflict continues, the greater the loss of life and destruction.

In our contacts here, I briefed them on our priorities since the beginning of the war: the urgent achievement of a ceasefire. I spoke about our efforts for a meeting with the UN and the parties.

Turkey, which celebrates its 70th anniversary of joining the alliance this year, will undoubtedly be among the allies with a voice in the vision for the future. NATO’s commitment to fight terrorism in all its forms is important. But this commitment should not remain on paper. In all my contacts, I have said that this issue is of great importance for Turkey. Terrorism, which seeks to profit from the lives of innocents, is a common problem for all of us. The weapons used against us will be used against someone else tomorrow. History has shown us that this kind of negligence turns deadly later on. At this point, we all realize that if we want to preserve NATO’s credibility, we must take sincere steps against terrorism.

“SWEDEN-FINLAND MUST KEEP THEIR PROMISES”

On Tuesday, we held our quadrilateral summit with the leaders of Sweden and Finland. This is a start. The main thing is to keep the promises made. From now on, we will follow the process meticulously and take our steps accordingly.

GRAIN CORRIDOR

We will continue our diplomatic talks with both Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelenski. We will try to operate this corridor as soon as possible. We will try to ensure the evacuation of these products by ships.

BIDEN’S F-16 STATEMENT

Parliaments are places where troubled processes take place. Mr. President said he will take the steps he can. After our meeting with Biden, we will send our delegations. We also need to get the support of the Republicans. We will send a delegation to the US soon.

Sweden and Finland should fulfill their duties first.
