Why was Erdogan's US trip canceled? What did Washington want and what did Ankara not give?

Let’s go back a bit. On 13-03-2024, I wrote that the simultaneous contacts between Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and MIT Director Ibrahim Kalın in the US could be seen as a mutual reflection of the will to reduce tensions between Ankara and Washington, especially over the PKK/YPG, and that the following days would reveal whether the contacts were successful or not.

Indeed, just before President Erdogan’s visit to Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, and then to Erbil, the capital of the Northern Iraq Regional Government, it was reported in the Turkish media that Erdoğan had canceled his visit to Washington and that the reason for the cancellation was the US House of Representatives’ approval of a bill that included aid to Israel.

Why was Erdogan's US trip canceled? What did Washington want and what did Ankara not give?

In this process, during which the Turkish Foreign Ministry did not make a clear statement, John Kirby, Coordinator of Strategic Communications at the US National Security Council, responded to a question about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to the United States by saying, “There is nothing scheduled regarding President Erdoğan’s visit.”

It seems inevitable that the cancellation of this prestigious trip by the US will be billed to the Turkish Foreign Affairs bureaucracy and reflected as a negative note on Dr. Hakan Fidan’s report card. It seems that Mr. Fidan’s decision to move some of his MIT staff to the Foreign Ministry has not been of much practical benefit.

Likewise, it can be said that İbrahim Kalın, the head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT), who has been in the US for many years and had close contacts with many high-level US officials during his tenure as the presidential spokesperson, failed to convince the Americans. Mr. Kalın could be graded in a similar way to Mr. Fidan.

The US wants to bring Turkey into the active war in Ukraine by playing the NATO card!…

Turkey is the key country in preventing the war in Ukraine from ending against Russia. By closing the straits to warships, it did not allow Russia to be encircled over the Black Sea. In particular, it prevented warships from the US and UK navies from passing through the straits under the Montreux Treaty. American cattle herders do not hide their anger at the Turkish government for this reason.

This being the case, when it became clear that it was impossible for the US to sacrifice on someone else’s back, namely Turkey’s, when it could not hit the bird of the stream with the stone of the stream, they had to send ballistic missiles from the US arms industry, the 300 km range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), and military technicians to use them to Ukraine.

Last week, the Ukrainian military used the missiles to bomb a Russian military airfield in Crimea and Russian forces in another occupied territory, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said. Additional authorization and funding have been obtained after the US Congress approved a $61 billion military aid package for Ukraine, and more of the missiles will be sent, he said. The ATACMS, which have long been requested by Ukraine, nearly double the strike range of the medium-range missiles the US sent last October, up to 160 kilometers.

The Russian army, whose combat experience is increasing day by day, needs to destroy these missile batteries with air strikes before they can be used. However, the Russians have a weakness in both electronic and human intelligence on the battlefield. They are trying to cover this deficit by putting more troops on the front line. At this rate, they will soon find it difficult to find soldiers to put to the front.

Despite President Erdoğan’s goodwill visit, our neighbor Greece had planned to transfer the Patriot PAC-3 air defense system to Ukraine in exchange for US “guarantees” against the “Turkish threat” and a financial compensation package, but for some reason they seem to have refrained from this generosity. What could deep Ankara have whispered in Athens’ ear?

Greece has rejected calls for it to transfer its S-300 and Patriot systems to Ukraine. “These systems are critical for the protection of Greek airspace,” Prime Minister Mitsotakis said.

Greece has once again rejected requests to transfer its Russian-made S-300 and US-made Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

“We will send neither S-300s nor Patriots,” said Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis. It is likely that the Washington administration, which has asked NATO member Greece for these, has made a similar request from Turkey.

Evacuation of Gazans

In March, US President Joe Biden announced that the US military would build a temporary pier on the Mediterranean coast of Gaza to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered by sea. In a new announcement, the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) said that in an expected move, the US military has started building a pier that will allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip and that the pier is scheduled to be operational in early May.

Six months after Israel’s war that devastated the region and plunged 2.3 million people into a humanitarian catastrophe, the pier is touted as part of an attempt to prevent famine in the Gaza Strip, but it is more likely to be about allowing US warships to land in Gaza and ensuring the security of US energy companies.

Although US officials say that the scaffolding work does not involve the ‘ground deployment of military forces’ in the war-torn Gaza Strip, it is clear that they are hiding the real project. These cattle herders think that the rest of humanity is like the manchurts in Genghis Aitmatov’s “Gün Olur Asra Bedel”. Why? US troops will be in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip during the construction of the jetty, which will be supervised by Israeli forces.

What is unknown about the postponement of Erdogan’s US trip…

Let’s write it down item by item:

a- The US demanded that Turkey immediately lift the ban it had imposed so that its warships could easily pass through the Turkish-controlled straits to the Black Sea. Deep Ankara’s answer was “no”.

b- Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin’s visit to Turkey, scheduled for February 12, was postponed. It was reported in the Russian media that the visit would take place at the end of April or the beginning of May, but no one has arrived so far.

However, diplomatic lobbies suggest that Putin’s possible visit to Turkey could take place in late June or the first week of July. This is because Ankara and Moscow may be conducting the planning of the visit in great secrecy to avoid any problems.

Joe Biden’s administration demanded that Ankara veto Russian leader Putin’s possible visit to Turkey. Deep Ankara’s answer was “no”.

c- The Pentagon demanded that Turkey send the S-400 air defense system purchased from the Russian Federation to Ukraine, as it had demanded from Greece. Deep Ankara’s answer was “no”.

d- The Americans also demanded that the Turkish secret services stop sharing information and intelligence with the Russian secret services regarding the attack in Moscow carried out by terrorists of Tajik origin. Deep Ankara’s answer was “no”.

e- President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s meeting in Istanbul with Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was significant because it coincided with a period of heightened Iran-Israel tensions in the Middle East, which put efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza on the back burner. The Americans warned that Erdoğan should not meet Ismail Haniyeh. Deep Ankara did not give a damn.

f- US officials said that the PKK/PYD/YPG is completely under their control and asked the Turkish Armed Forces to end all military operations against these terrorist groups in Syria by air and ground forces. Did Deep Ankara tell the Americans “your mother is beautiful”?

As you have witnessed, it sounds one thing and looks another. Be you, do not underestimate the Jahanşumül Ancient Turkish State. Know that the Three, the Seven, the Forty, and those who have received the support of the demon of erler are saving these affairs. White Ghosts are on the field. Steel Core is no match.
