The number of migrants found dead in a truck in the state of Texas in the United States of America (USA) has been updated to 50. The dead were identified as irregular migrants trying to enter the US illegally.

Police officials said the truck was found abandoned on a road near San Antonio following a tip-off from a municipal employee.

Police officers also said that when they arrived at the scene they found a body lying on the ground outside the van.

Fire Chief Charles Hood told AP that 16 people, including 4 children, were hospitalized. Hood said the patients were too hot to touch and there was no water in the truck bed.

Temperatures in San Antonio, about 250 kilometers from the Mexican border, topped 39 degrees on Monday.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that 22 of the migrants were Mexican citizens, 7 from Guatemala and 2 from Honduras.

The identities of the other 19 people have not yet been released.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus announced that 3 people were detained in connection with the abandoned truck. The identities of the detainees have not yet been released.

In 2017, 10 migrants died in a truck parked in San Antonio. In 2003, 19 migrants were found dead inside a truck southeast of San Antonio.

There was no official statement on the nationality of the dead.

This was one of the deadliest tragedies in human trafficking between Mexico and the US.
