The White House now has a cat: Willow's first photos released

U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, known for being dog people, adopted a cat. Photos sent by the White House administration to international news agencies officially introduced the new gray-and-white-haired resident of the White House.
The cat, who reportedly first met First Lady Jill Biden in 2020, is named Willow. The 2-year-old cat, named after Jill Biden’s hometown of Willow Grove, reportedly jumped into her lap as soon as she saw the First Lady, causing her to interrupt her speech. “There was an immediate bond between the two,” Jill Biden’s spokesman, Michael LaRosa, said in a statement.

The Biden couple had previously signaled they wanted to adopt a cat. But when asked about the issue last March, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki’s response was, “We know the cat is going to destroy the internet, but I don’t know about it yet.”

Last April, Jill Biden told The Today Show that the cat was ‘waiting on the wings’. In an interview with the New York Times, Biden noted that the cat’s arrival at the White House was delayed because of some behavioral problems with their dead dog, Major.

Jill Biden’s spokesman, Michael LaRosa, confirmed news last month that a cat was coming to the White House. LaRosa, who said the cat was female, announced that he would join the Biden family in January.
