4 months before the election in France, the claim that Brigitte Macron was born as a boy, took over Twitter
Under the hashtag #JeanMichelTrogneux, which swept the Francophone channel of Twitter, the conspiracy theory emerged that Brigitte, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, was a born male transgender. According to her close circle, speaking to the French media, Brigitte Macron will apply to the judiciary against the conspiracy theory stemming from the extreme right.
Following the claim that Brigitte, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, is a transgender person named Jean-Michel Trogneux, circulating on the Internet, the French media concluded that it came out of the journal Faits et Documents, which publishes far-right conspiracy theories at the end of September.
However, the claim became the agenda on social media on 13 December. According to the Numerama news site, which determined that more than 34 thousand tweets were sent with the hashtag #JeanMichelTrogneux in the first place, behind the spread of the claim on social media, there are accounts marketing conspiracy theories, far-right circles, anti-vaccine groups, QAnon groups and singer Francis Lalanne from the Yellow Vests movement.
According to her official biography, 68-year-old Madame Macron, who was born as a female and whose full name is Brigitte Marie-Claude Trogneux, is shared with photos that draw attention to her ‘habit of hiding her neck’ in the past and now, accompanied by photos that are claimed to be her childhood and youth.

Journalist Natacha Rey wrote the claim in Faits et Documents magazine. Claiming that she has been researching Brigitte Macron’s past for 3 years, Rey says she has managed to obtain documents confirming that she was born a male, and that she will share this evidence, which is in a sealed envelope under the supervision of a lawyer, with the public if vaccination is mandatory in France.
According to Numerama, Rey gave a nearly four-hour interview to psychic Amandine Roy on YouTube on December 10 about this conspiracy theory. Before the video was deleted, it reached 470,000 views.
According to French media, there were multiple attempts last week to alter the Brigitte Macron article on Wikipedia, accompanied by allegations that her birth name was Jean-Michel Trogneux. The page has been made ‘semi-protected’ to prevent such changes.
According to Le Figaro, the First Lady plans to file criminal charges and file lawsuits against the instigators of the conspiracy theory.
Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte Macron, who will pass the presidential election exam this spring, has always been the focus of attention and rumors, as she is a former teacher and the age difference between them is 25. But the first alleged transgender leader is not his wife or a female leader.
Former US President Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle Obama, was also the target of conservative radio host and InfoWars website administrator Alex Jones’ claims in 2017, “He looks like he has a huge penis, it looks like a trance.” Claims that New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is transgender are also circulating. To date, no concrete evidence has emerged to support these claims.
