Erdan, Israel‘s Permanent Representative to the UN, said in a statement on his X account that he sent a letter to the UNSC Chairperson-in-Office to urgently convene the United Nations Security Council.

“I demanded that the Council convene immediately, condemn unequivocally Iran’s attacks on Israel and recognize the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization,” Erdan said.

Arguing that Iran’s attacks are a “clear threat to world peace”, Erdan argued that the UNSC must take action against Iran with all the tools at its disposal.

The UNSC has not yet issued any statement on the call.

Iran-Israel tensions

Israel launched an airstrike on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus on April 1. The attack killed 7 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, including 2 generals.

Iran announced that the Israeli consulate attack amounted to an attack on its territory and that it would retaliate. Israel, on the other hand, announced that it would respond to Iran’s attack.

Yesterday, Iran launched an attack on Israel with hundreds of kamikaze drones, ballistic and cruise missiles.

Iran said some military targets were hit, while Israel said most of the attacks were intercepted by its air defense systems, but a missile hit a military base in the south.
