A dam burst on the Ural River in Russia: Hundreds of houses under water

More than 2,400 houses were flooded in the city of Orsk in Russia's Orenburg region after a dam burst.

According to the Orenburg regional press service, part of the dam on the Ural River collapsed yesterday evening.

Due to the floods, about 11 thousand people were stranded in the region where there are 4 thousand 258 houses.

While evacuation efforts continue in the region, the water level rose up to 4 meters in places where flooding was effective. More than 2,400 houses were flooded due to the flood. While more than 4,200 people were evacuated from the region, 47 bridges and 106 roads were closed in 31 neighborhoods. Electricity was cut in 12 settlements in the region.

According to information received from Orenburg emergency officials, the lifeless bodies of 3 people were found in the region.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, work is underway to rescue and repair the dam.

The dam is in danger of collapsing completely, while authorities announced that the water in the Ural River is approaching dangerous levels.
