NYT: US launches review of Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes

The New York Times newspaper claimed that the US Federal Aviation Administration launched an investigation after a Boeing employee claimed that “the company’s 787 Dreamliner passenger planes are not safe”.

According to the US-based New York Times (NYT) newspaper, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation after Sam Salehpour, who has been working at Boeing for more than 10 years, claimed that Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft were faulty.

Speaking to the NYT, Salehpour, an engineer involved in the production of the aircraft series, claimed that the fuselage parts of the 787 Dreamliner were improperly connected to each other and could potentially break apart during flight.

Salehpour argued that the fuselage parts came from different manufacturers and therefore did not match each other 100 percent, adding that he tried to explain this problem several times, but company officials did not listen to him.

Salehpour’s lawyer, Debra S. Katz, said the aviation authority met with her client on April 5.

The company denied the allegations

Paul Lewis, Boeing’s company spokesperson, argued that this had no impact on the durability or safety of the aircraft.

Stating that the company’s engineers are in the process of conducting a detailed analysis of whether there will be safety problems in the long-term use of the aircraft, Lewis stated that “this will not be a problem in the near future”.

Following Lewis’ statement, the company denied the allegations, emphasizing that they are confident in the safety of the 787 Dreamliner.

Former Boeing employee Barnett found dead in his car

John Barnett, a former Boeing employee who raised concerns about the quality of the company’s products, was found dead in his vehicle on March 11.

In 2019, Barnett had claimed that there was a manufacturing defect in most of the systems that automatically open the oxygen masks on the passenger seats in the event of a sudden drop in cabin pressure on “787 Dreamliner” type passenger planes.
