After Taylor Swift‘s visit to Asia, one of the leading universities in the Philippines opened an “elective” Taylor Swift course. It was stated that the course was full.
More than 300 students enrolled in the elective, the limited places were filled within minutes and the administration opened an extra class.
The singer’s fans, who call themselves “Swifties,” said the lecture will also examine media portrayals of Swift and how she is seen as a “transnational” figure in the Philippines.
According to the report, the students of the course wore Taylor Swift printed products and decorated their laptops with stickers featuring Swift’s photo.
“I would love to delve deeper into the social issues we face in relation to Taylor Swift,” said student Shyne Cañezal, who said she has been a “Swiftie” since elementary school.
US universities such as Harvard, Stanford and Berklee College of Music have offered courses on Swift’s literary approaches to songwriting and discography, among other topics.
