Russian Ministry Condemns US Strikes on Syria and Iraq, Calls for Urgent UN Security Council Meeting

Russia Condemns US Airstrikes: Accuses Washington of Ignoring International Law, Questions Motives Behind Recent Military Actions in Syria and Iraq

Moscow, on Sunday, strongly criticized the recent American airstrikes on Syria and Iraq, urging an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, scheduled to take place next Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the United States, through its strikes on Iraqi and Syrian territories, blatantly disregarded international law criteria.

Maria Zakharova, speaking on behalf of the Russian government, emphasized that the participation of the United Kingdom in the US-led strikes should not be interpreted as the formation of an international alliance between the two countries.

Zakharova asserted that the recent air raids in Syria and Iraq seemed primarily aimed at exacerbating conflicts in the region. She suggested that these actions were not in line with fostering peace and stability.

She further claimed that the attempted show of strength in the region was driven by a desire to influence the political landscape within the United States. Zakharova argued that it reflected an effort to rectify what the Russian government perceives as the current administration’s failed global policies.

According to Zakharova, the United States is not genuinely seeking solutions to problems in the region. She contended that historically, Washington has shown a preference for heightened tensions in the Middle East.
