Iraqi Prime Ministry Military Spokesman General Yahya Rasul stated in a written statement that Qaim and border areas of Anbar in western Iraq were attacked by US aircraft and said, “These attacks took place at a time when Iraq was trying to stabilise the region. This means a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and undermining the efforts of the Iraqi government.”
Pointing out that the US attacks in question are a threat that drags Iraq and the region to undesirable consequences, Resul noted that the consequences of this will be grave for the security and stability of Iraq and the region.
It was stated that the arms depot belonging to the Shiite militia Hashd al-Shaabi in western Iraq was hit in the US attack.
In response to the base attack, the US Central Command announced air strikes against targets belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iraq and Syria.
In a written statement made by CENTCOM, it was reported that at least 85 targets belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force and affiliated militia groups in Syria and Iraq were hit by air strikes.
In the statement, it was stated that long-range bombers from the USA took part in the attacks and more than 125 guided bombs were used, and that command and control centres, rockets and missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles were hit in the targeted areas.
Three American soldiers were killed and more than 40 soldiers were wounded in the attack on the US base called Tower 22.
In response to the attack, the US administration announced that it would organise multi-layered and timed attacks and that Iranian-backed groups would be targeted.
