Despite Europe’s concern, Johnson defends AstraZeneca vaccine safety
While the use of the vaccine developed by the Oxford University / AstraZeneca company against the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) was stopped by several European countries due to concerns that it could cause blood clotting and other possible side effects, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson once again argued that the vaccine is safe.
Germany, Italy and France have joined a group of countries that have decided to suspend the use of the vaccine, taking a heavy blow to the international vaccination campaign against the virus that has killed more than 2.6 million people worldwide so far.
However, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) insisted that the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and there is no direct link between its use and the formation of blood clots.
“This vaccine is safe and works very well,” Johnson assured in an article he wrote to The Times that the vaccine was not harmful. It is produced in many places from India to the USA and is used worldwide as well as in the UK ”.
In some countries, the few people who were vaccinated had blood clots and there were a small number of deaths, raising fears about the safety of the vaccine.
In his statement yesterday, Johnson pointed out that the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) is one of the world’s most stringent and experienced regulators and said, “They see no reason why the AstraZeneca vaccination program should not continue.”
