US President Joe Biden targeted Iran over the attack. Biden said, “Last night, three US soldiers were killed and several others were wounded in a drone strike on our forces stationed northeast of Jordan, near the Syrian border. While we are still gathering the facts about this attack, we know that it was carried out by Iranian-backed radical militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq. Make no mistake, we will hold those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing.”
Stating that the attack in question was a ‘despicable attack’, Biden described the soldiers who died in the attack as patriots and said, “Together we will fulfill the sacred responsibility we bear to their families. We will try to be worthy of their honor and glory. We will maintain our determination in the fight against terrorism.”
While no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, there have been more than 150 attacks on US military bases in Iraq and Syria since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Palestine on October 7. Most of the attacks have been claimed by groups linked to Iran.
