Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, SpaceX and X (Twitter), is looking to establish his own university in Austin, Texas, according to a recent Bloomberg report. Here are the emerging developments!
Elon Musk is founding a university
According to emerging information, Musk’s plans include a school project primarily for young students. Analyses based on Musk’s tax returns show that he has donated nearly $100 million to open a school focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) subjects for high school-age youth. This program, which will initially cater to 50 students, will offer elementary-level education.
The Foundation, which is its own charitable organization, will expand its work with the goal of creating a university focused on high-level education. According to the document, the university will apply for accreditation and may charge tuition fees for students, but will offer scholarships to students in need.
In the past years, Elon Musk has expressed his interest in education and previously opened a school called Ad Astra for his own children and the children of company employees. Musk stated that the school did not focus on the grading system, but focused on “talent and skill”. In addition, the Wall Street Journal reported in recent months that Musk was interested in a Montessori style school in Snailbrook.
Musk has also joked in the past about founding the Texas Institute of Technology and made various comments about the education system in the US. Most recently, on Monday, he posted a message saying that SpaceX and Tesla have noticed a significant decline in the skills of US college graduates in recent years.
