Nevada police said in a statement on social media platform X that an armed assailant opened fire on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and multiple people were shot.
Police reported that the attacker was killed by return fire from security forces. People in the area were advised to leave the scene and go to a safe place.
“There appears to be multiple victims at this time. Please stay away from the area, we will have more information soon.”
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement that they are aware of the incident on campus and are following the developments.
A few kilometers away from the campus where the attack took place, there was a shooting at the Harvest Music Festival held in 2017, killing at least 58 people and injuring hundreds.
