Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that US intelligence services were most likely behind the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipeline last September.
In a statement yesterday, Putin acknowledged that it would be “very difficult” to uncover the whole truth on the matter, but expressed hope that at some point “it will be revealed in detail what was done and how it happened,” the Russia 24 TV channel reported, citing Sharq al-Awsat.
Referring to US investigative journalist Seymour Hersh’s revelations last February that US Navy divers had destroyed pipelines with explosives on orders from President Joe Biden, the Russian leader said;
“Hersh, a US journalist now known all over the world, conducted such an investigation and came to the conclusion that this explosion of gas pipelines was organized by US intelligence. I fully agree with this conclusion.”

Putin did not say whether Russia had any evidence to support this position.
On September 26, 2022, an explosion occurred on pipelines carrying natural gas from Russia to Germany.
The attack sparked public speculation about who carried it out, from Moscow to Kiev to London to Washington.
Ukrainian government officials and military intelligence emphasized that they had no role in the attack and did not know who carried it out.
The US and NATO described it as an ‘act of sabotage’.
The White House denied Hersh’s claim that Washington was behind the explosion, calling it ‘completely false and fictional’.
Earlier this month, US officials told the New York Times that they had ‘new intelligence’ that a pro-Ukrainian group had blown up pipelines.
They added that they had no evidence that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky or his top aides were involved in the operation, or that the perpetrators were acting on the instructions of a Ukrainian government official.
