It was reported that the number of people who died in the cholera epidemic in Mozambique increased to 37

Mozambique Health Minister Armindo Tiago announced that the number of people who have died since the beginning of the year due to the epidemic has risen to 37.

Noting that they have detected more than 5 thousand cases so far, Tiago announced that they have provided vaccines to combat the cholera epidemic and that they will start the vaccination campaign this week.

Tiago noted that they aim to vaccinate 700 thousand people nationwide with cholera vaccine.

Cholera cases, which have been decreasing for years thanks to the measures of global health organisations and governments, have started to increase again due to reasons such as climate change, poverty and conflicts.

According to World Health Organisation data, while the number of cholera cases detected worldwide from 2017 to 2021 was below 20, cholera outbreaks were seen in 26 countries in 2022 alone.
