Brazil death toll from floods and landslides rises to 48

The number of people killed in floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo has risen to 48.

In a statement made by Sao Paulo state authorities, it was stated that the death toll has increased in the floods that have been effective since February 18.

It was emphasized that 48 people have lost their lives so far in the disaster and search and rescue efforts are continuing for 36 people.

State Civil Defense Coordinator Hengeel Ricardo Pereira stated that approximately 3 thousand people were evacuated from the disaster area and that the works were carried out with difficulty due to the ongoing heavy rains.

It was shared that humanitarian aid was being delivered to the region by military helicopter.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited the disaster area on February 21 and made an aerial inspection by helicopter.
