Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who lost the presidential elections held in Brazil on October 30, 2022 in the second round and left Brazil for the United States before the end of his term of office on December 31, 2022, returned to his country.
Bolsonaro, who stayed in the US state of Florida for three months, was welcomed by hundreds of supporters at the airport in the capital Brasilia. Bolsonaro supporters, carrying Brazilian flags, chanted the Brazilian national anthem and chanted ‘legend’ slogans after the former President left the airport.
“We are turning a new page and we will prepare for the elections next year,” Bolsonaro said in a statement before leaving the US.
Bolsonaro was under investigation
In Brazil, leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won in the second round of the presidential elections held on October 30, 2022. Bolsonaro, who left his country days before the end of his term, is accused of encouraging his supporters to raid Congress and other state institutions.
An investigation was launched against Bolsonaro for encouraging the congressional raid.
