Death toll from floods and landslides in Brazil rises to 46

In Sao Paulo state of Brazil, the number of people killed in floods and landslides caused by heavy rains increased to 46.

In a statement made by the Sao Paulo state authorities, it was reported that the balance sheet is getting heavier as a result of heavy rains.

It was shared that 46 people have lost their lives so far in the disaster and 40 people are missing. Search and rescue operations continue uninterruptedly.

The State Health Department also announced that 7 of the people who continue to be treated in hospitals are in serious condition.

In the statement made by the Civil Defence, it was stated that heavy rains will continue and warned citizens to be careful.

It was reported that approximately 2,500 people were sheltered in schools and NGO organisations.

On the other hand, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, in his post on his Twitter account, expressed his condolences to the Brazilian government for the deaths in floods and landslides and said, “On behalf of the government of Nicolas Maduro, we convey our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We want to express our solidarity with the Brazilian government.”

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced on his Twitter account that he will visit the disaster zone. Silva said, “We will come together with all units of the state and care for the injured with social solidarity. We will search for the missing and restore roads, energy and telecommunications connections in the region.”
