Flash statement from Putin on Turkey

Russian President Putin: ‘Turkey’s natural gas infrastructure has significant potential. An electronic platform for trade in the natural gas hub may be established in the coming months.

While the war in Ukraine continues at full speed, Europe, which is dependent on Russian gas, is in the grip of an energy crisis. At a time when many European countries are discussing urgent measures, Putin made a flash statement on Turkey.

MAY BE ESTABLISHED IN THE COMING MONTHS

‘The gas infrastructure in Turkey has a serious potential. We are planning to establish a gas hub here. This is where we will set the final price for our European consumers in the future,’ the Russian leader said, underlining that an electronic platform for trade in the gas hub could be established in the coming months.

PUTIN ANNOUNCED IN OCTOBER

In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed to Turkey as a solution to the natural gas crisis in Europe, saying, “We can build a large natural gas hub for Europe in Turkey. No intervention in oil markets, no use of reserves will solve the energy problem. Russia is ready to deliver energy to Europe even in winter, the ball is in their court.”

President Erdoğan, on the other hand, used the following statements in his statement on the subject;

“Thrace is seen as the most important place for such a distribution center. Together with Mr. Putin, we have instructed our Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the relevant institution on the Russian side to carry out a joint study. They will carry out this study there. Wherever the most suitable place is, we will hopefully establish this distribution center there.

We have a national distribution center, but of course now this will be an international distribution center. Our Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Russian side will work on this issue and present it to us, and then we will take the next step. There is no waiting here. We immediately gave the decision to our Minister of Energy and Natural Resources today. Likewise, (Gazprom President) Miller from Russia was at this meeting at the same time, and he also received the instruction.

Now our friends will start working in consultation with each other. While we are taking all kinds of steps in terms of security, of course, we are also rapidly establishing our security network here, whatever security requires, and we continue our work accordingly.”
