Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk said on Twitter that US tech giant Apple has stopped most of its advertising on Twitter and threatened to remove the platform from its app store, the App Store.
Elon Musk claimed on Twitter last night that Apple threatened to remove Twitter from the iOS App Store for unknown reasons. Musk tweeted that Apple had “largely stopped advertising” on the platform, questioning whether the company hates free speech in America.

He then accused Apple of censorship, and a poll asking whether the company would “publish all acts of censorship affecting its customers” is still ongoing on its Twitter page.

Musk then went on to criticize the company’s policies, including the fee, in a series of Tweets, claiming that it secretly imposes a 30 tax on everything it receives from purchases made in the app store.

Removing the app from Apple’s or Google’s app store could hurt Twitter. After Musk took over Twitter, companies have been shunning it. Mondelez, Carlsberg, Volkswagen, Pfizer, United Airlines and General Motors, among other similarly large brands, have suspended advertising on the platform.

Apple has yet to comment on Musk’s claim. The lack of an official statement by the company causes speculation to increase.
