Download the Oceanic+ app to transform your Apple Watch Ultra into a dive computer that logs dives and measures depth, time, and other stats.

What is going on? Apple stated on November 28 that the Oceanic+ app for the Apple Watch Ultra and iPhone is now available for download.

What’s the point?  This is the app that Apple demonstrated at the presentation of the Apple Watch Ultra. It makes use of the new sensors to perform the functions of a sophisticated dive computer.

What should I do? Oceanic+ is available for the iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra.

Many tasks that used to need a hefty, complex dive computer are now available directly on your Apple Watch Ultra. Oceanic+, when used with the associated iPhone app, enables robust dive preparation as well as a full post-dive experience.

The app, developed in collaboration with Apple, uses improved water resistance (more on that in an Apple support document) and the new Apple Watch Ultra depth gauge and water temperature sensors to report your current depth, no-decompression time, water temperature, and other important stats, with a single arrow telling you to go up, go down, or stop.

The Oceanic+ app may be launched into the pre-dive screen by customizing the Action button on your Apple Watch Ultra. During a dive, pressing the Action button immediately marks a compass bearing. The software employs haptic feedback, and Apple claims that divers will be able to sense alerts underwater through a 7mm thick wetsuit.

According to the Apple Newsroom statement, several typical diving capabilities are free, with the remainder available if you subscribe.

According to the announcement in the Apple Newsroom, many common diving features are available for free, with the rest available to you if you subscribe.

Oceanic+ requires either Apple Watch Ultra running watchOS 9.1 paired with iPhone 8 or later or a second-generation iPhone SE or later running iOS 16.1.

The basic plan in Oceanic+ is available for free and includes dive functions like depth/time and the ability to log your most recent dives.

If you subscribe at $10/month or $80/year, you’ll unlock advanced functionality like decompression tracking, tissue loading, the location planner and an unlimited logbook capacity. To allow access for up to five people in your Family Sharing circle, you’ll need to pay $129 yearly.
