US deploys MQ-9 Reaper drones to Greece

The US deployed 8 advanced MQ-9 Reaper Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to Greece’s Larissa Air Base for one year.

According to the information obtained from the Pentagon upon the news in the Greek media, MQ-9 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were redeployed to the Larissa base where they were previously withdrawn.

Eight MQ-9 Reaper UAVs of the US Air Force arrived at Larissa Air Base on November 12 with related equipment and personnel.

It was learned that the deployment was for one year and within the framework of an agreement signed on November 1 between the US European Command (EUCOM) and the Greek army as part of the US-Greece Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement.

The Greek army claimed that the deployment is part of its efforts to improve cooperation with allied forces and “will contribute to NATO interoperability and deterrence”.
