Due to Lake Mead in Nevada’s declining water levels, a body was uncovered and later identified. It is one of five bodies that have been discovered in the lake since May, one of which was probably dumped there following a rumored mob hit.
The skeletal bones discovered on May 7, 2022, have been recognized as belonging to Thomas Erndt by the Clark County coroner’s office. Erndt, who was 42 years old when he “jumped off a boat,” has been missing since August 2, 2002, and his death has been ruled as drowning.

According to a statement from Clark County’s Dan Kulin obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “The identification was based on investigation information, DNA analysis, and accounts from the original incident.” There is no known official cause of death.
Kulin stated in the same report that a second body discovered inside a barrel in the lake was that of a guy who had been shot and whose death had been determined to be a homicide. Considering that there have been about 300 drownings since the 1930s, there may be more dead in the lake.
One former lawyer to Vegas crime figures claimed his clients had developed an interest in “climate management” at the lake to keep the waters high, as lowering waters reveal more bodies, possibly tied to mafia hits. The drought has raised concerns from unexpected sources.
The reservoir’s water levels are currently increasing again after falling to their lowest point since the 1930s, just before it was built. Water levels in the reservoir have decreased by 50 meters (170 feet) since the start of the megadrought in the area in 2000.
