In a statement released by the Isikava Prefecture Governor’s Office in western Japan, it was reported that the death toll from multiple earthquakes in the first week of January has risen to 206.
In the statement, it was stated that 3,100 people were stranded due to blocked roads across the state, where a total of 26,000 people were accommodated at 400 evacuation points in 22 regions.
In the statement, it was noted that 567 people who were injured in the earthquakes across the region received treatment, and it was shared that search efforts are continuing for 52 people who have not been heard from.
6,300 Self-Defense Forces personnel participate in search and rescue operations
The central government announced that it will prepare accommodation for 10,000 people in the surrounding prefectures of Fukui, Toyama and Niigata for those stranded in the earthquake zone.
Japanese Defense Minister Kihara Minoru announced that 6,300 Self-Defense Forces personnel participated in search and rescue activities in the region.
It was stated that search and rescue activities continued uninterruptedly despite aftershocks and rain on the Noto Peninsula, where the air temperature was about 3 degrees Celsius.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), numerous earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 5 to 7 occurred on the Noto Peninsula and offshore of Isikawa between January 1-5.
