Dowse recently developed a severe case of meningitis, went into a coma, and died on Saturday, Aug. 13, according to her sister Tracey Dowse’s confirmation on Instagram.

She is presently being treated for a severe case of meningitis at the hospital. The coma was not medically induced, therefore her physicians are unsure of when she may awaken.

Dowse, who was born on February 21, 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii, decided to pursue an acting career after graduating from Norfolk State University. According to Deadline, she made her television debut in an episode of the sitcom “Almost There” in 1989.

According to Deadline, Dowse had a long and successful career that spanned more than three decades. Among her many roles were Vice Principal Yvonne Teasley on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” Dr. Rhonda Pine on the Issa Rae-produced series “Insecure,” and guest appearances on “Seinfield,” “Sister, Sister,” “Moesha,” “Girlfriends,” and “Full House.”
Additionally, Dowse made appearances on the big screen in movies including “Ray,” “Bio-Dome,” “Starship Troopers,” and “Coach Carter.” Also under post-production is the biopic she directed, “Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story.”
