Positive outcome from the Grain Summit: Coordination center to be established in Istanbul
Source: TRT News: Making statements about the quadrilateral meeting in Istanbul, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar said, “At the meeting on Ukrainian grain, it was agreed to establish a coordination center in Istanbul, where representatives of the parties will be present.”
Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar answered questions about the “Quartet Meeting” held in Istanbul.
Stating that the evacuation of grain and other foodstuffs in Ukrainian ports, among other issues, was emphasized in the talks with Russia and Ukraine to resolve the grain crisis affecting the whole world, Minister Akar reminded that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also raised these issues and expressed the importance of this issue in his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukrainian and Russian delegations to meet again in Turkey
Emphasizing that the relevant ministries and institutions also held many bilateral meetings in line with these meetings, Akar said:
“Within this framework, a meeting between the military delegations of the defense ministries of Turkey, Russia and Ukraine and the United Nations delegation was held today at the Kalender Pavilion hosted by the Ministry of National Defense. In today’s meeting, which is an important step taken to contribute to the solution of the food crisis, all the details regarding the safe transfer of ships loaded with grain and other food by sea were worked on.
In a positive and constructive atmosphere, the meeting resulted in agreement on key technical issues such as the establishment of a coordination center in Istanbul with representatives of all parties, joint controls at ports of origin and destination, and ensuring navigational safety along the transit routes. In conclusion, the agreement on the basic principles has meaning for us as well. We see the willingness of the parties to solve this problem. We will try to reach a conclusion in coordination with the UN. In this sense, it was agreed that the Ukrainian and Russian delegations will meet again in Turkey next week. In this meeting next week, all the details will be reviewed once again and the work we have done will be signed.”
Stating that Turkey will continue to do its part to solve the food crisis, which is a humanitarian problem, as well as its contributions to regional and world peace, Akar thanked the delegations of Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations for their contributions to the evacuation of grain and foodstuffs.
