In a statement released on Thursday, the US reiterated its support for Israel’s strategic military advantage and capacity “to defend itself alone.”
The statement continued, “The United States underscores that inherent to this guarantee is the commitment that it will never permit Iran to get a nuclear weapon, and that it is willing to use all of its national strength to secure that result.
Lapid said that in order to stop Iran’s nuclear program, the international community must be prepared to use war against it.
“The only thing that will stop Iran is knowing that if they continue to develop their nuclear program, the free world will use force,” he said after the signing ceremony. “The only way to stop them is to put a credible military threat on the table.”
Alongside him, Biden stated that stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapon was “essential to the security of Israel, the United States, and, I would add, the rest of the world.”
Iran’s response is up to them, according to Biden, who has urged for a restart of the nuclear negotiations.
“We are not going to wait forever,” he said.
The Jerusalem Declaration also committed the United States and Israel to working together on both civilian and defense technology, including laser interceptors.
The statement reaffirmed Washington’s willingness in resuming negotiations on a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine and stated that Washington was open to provide Israel with future defense assistance.
