Unemployment benefit applications, which increased contrary to market expectations, were expected to be 230 thousand in this period.
The previous week’s data on the number of jobless claims was not revised and remained at 231 thousand.
As of last week, the 4-week average jobless claims increased by 750 compared to the previous week to 232,500.
Continuing jobless claims increased by 51 thousand people to 1 million 375 thousand in the week ending June 25.
Analysts stated that the limited increase in applications for unemployment benefits last week, despite hovering near the highest level in nearly 6 months, indicates some easing in tight labor market conditions.
