Micron unveiled a 1.5TB microSD card using 176-layer 3D NAND technology, just like SSDs.
While we are slowly saying goodbye to removable storage devices in smartphones, there is still a great need for memory cards, especially for cameras. In this context, the storage capacity of memory cards is also increasing. Micron threatened its competitors with the world’s highest capacity microSD model.
1.5 terabyte microSD
Micron has introduced a new microSD memory card with up to 1.5TB of storage. The company’s new i400 model stands out with 50 percent more capacity than the record-holding 1TB memory card.
Micron has achieved this capacity using 176-layer 3D NAND technology, similar to SSDs, and wants to stand out especially in video and photo storage. With this capacity, the company will be able to host videos that are about 5 years long. Of course, the price of microSD with such a capacity will also be high.
Detailed information about the features of the new memory card has not yet been shared. However, unlike the C200 model, the i400 was developed for industrial use, so we can say that it will have the highest capability in terms of reading and durability. In the C200 model, a 96-layer 3D NAND technology was used.
While cloud storage is taking up more and more space in our lives day by day, the popularity of memory cards, especially on phones, has decreased. However, the role of memory cards is still quite high, especially in the photo and video industry. We do not know what the price of these memory cards will be with the chip crisis in the current period.
It is really surprising to talk about TBs in microSD cards, which were mentioned in MBs when they first appeared. Let’s see if other brands will follow in Micron’s footsteps and produce memory cards with larger capacities. So what do you think about high capacity microSD cards?
