WhatsApp, the social messaging and chat application, provides users with a better experience thanks to the updates it releases. WhatsApp, which continues to work within Meta, announced a new feature in group chats. With the released update, only certain people in group conversations can now be muted.
WHATSAPP’S NEW SILENCING FEATURE
WhatsApp has released an update that allows users to silence or message specific people who are part of a group chat.
This feature was highly requested and announced by William Cathcart, President of Meta WhatsApp. He shared the announcement on Twitter, which means that users can now manually mute participants in a group who forget to turn off their microphone during group calls or who accidentally turn it on. In other words, a good quality of life change to the chat app’s search feature. Notably, the ability to mute individuals will be available to everyone, not just those who request it.
IDENTIFIED INDIVIDUALS CAN BE SILENCED
WhatsApp will now allow you to mute specific contacts during voice calls. This feature will be available for both group voice calls and group video calls.
The update also allows users to message specific people during voice calls. Thus, users will be able to warn people whose microphone is left on during group calls or continue private conversations during a meeting. Finally, WhatsApp alerts users when someone new joins group conversations. So you can more easily understand who is in the conversation during the meeting.
IN ADDITION TO THE UPDATE
In addition to the new mute feature, WhatsApp now allows you to send messages to specific contacts during a group conversation, perhaps to take a note to someone during a meeting, or when you want to crack a joke that might not go over well with the whole group. WhatsApp is also rolling out a new banner that will alert you when someone new joins after starting a call.
