What would a PlayStation 5 Slim version look like? A YouTuber looking for an answer to this question designed a PS5 only 2 cm thick.
Many times before, we’ve seen gamers take apart PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and use them in different designs. A YouTuber who created his own PlayStation 5 Slim version managed to go viral on social media. The next-generation console, which is only 2 centimeters thick, also features liquid cooling.
2 cm thick and liquid-cooled PlayStation 5 Slim
Many users complained about the PlayStation 5’s appearance and asked for a more compact and thinner device. Sony said it designed the new console in this way so that the cooling system would be successful. But one YouTuber outdid the Japanese company and designed his own Slim version of the PS5.
The do-it-yourself video, posted on YouTube channel DIY Perks, gives a glimpse of what the possible PlayStation 5 Slim will look like. The YouTuber managed to fit all the components of the next-gen console into a box just 2 centimeters high, and he also completely changed the cooling system.

According to the video, a liquid cooling system was supposed to be used for the PS5 Slim. Therefore, he disabled almost all of the original cooling system and switched to a new water-based system that integrates with a large external source.
Stating that the standard PS5 is 10.4 cm thick, the video owner managed to reduce his PS5 Slim version to exactly 2.06 cm. This represents a thinning of almost 5 times.
The DIY Perks video also shows that the power supply has also changed. Sony had combined the PSU with the console’s motherboard, increasing the thickness considerably. The YouTuber connected an external power supply and didn’t use the original PSU.
It’s worth noting that the water-cooled PS5 runs much hotter than the original design, but according to the video, it’s amazing that it can even handle a demanding game like Horizon Forbidden West.
We don’t know if Sony will offer a Slim version anytime soon. But even if the PS5 Slim is released, it will probably need a reduction in energy consumption and, naturally, a change in cooling.
