Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu and Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau at the Presidential Dolmabahçe work office.

Cavusoglu spoke at a joint press conference with his counterparts after the meeting.

Regarding Finland and Sweden’s application for NATO membership, Çavuşoğlu said, “Our opposition to Finland and Sweden’s NATO application is due to their support to terrorist organizations. Everyone knows and understands why we oppose it.”

‘I HOPE SWEDEN AND FINLAND UNDERSTAND US’

Minister Çavuşoğlu said the following about the meeting held with the delegations of the two countries in Ankara:

“Delegations came to Ankara, and we had friends from different institutions from this meeting. The support and information given by the two countries to terrorist organizations, especially the PKK and YPG, were shared once again. The delegation received these documents, returned to their capital, and now we expect concrete steps from these countries. An approach such as we will convince Turkey would not be right, our expectation is not a wrong expectation. If they want to become a member of NATO, they have to stop supporting terrorist organizations. Our demand is quite legitimate, clear and unambiguous. These countries support terrorism and need to lift their defensive restrictions on us. I hope Finland and Sweden understand us very well. We are always in favor of dialogue, and we hope that these expectations will be fulfilled in a concrete way.”
