Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelenskiy had not ruled out any form of talks, including a meeting in Turkey, but no agreement had been reached on such a meeting.
“As for the attempt to organize the meeting of (Russian President) Putin and (Ukrainian President) Zelenskiy on Turkish territory, there is no agreement on this yet, because there has been no real conversation on this issue,” Kremlin spokesman Peskov said at a news conference.
Asked how likely such a meeting was to take place, the Kremlin spokesman said, “No one is denying this (the possibility of such a meeting taking place). The Russian President says he is ready to meet with everyone to discuss a job, but for this (in the meeting) it is necessary to understand what is expected to be achieved and what will be discussed. such an agreement does not exist at this time.”
As for the possibility of the Russian President visiting Turkey soon, Peskov said, “What is at stake is, above all, a bilateral meeting that the country’s leaders have been talking about for a long time. The focus is on the Meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council and the convening of intergovernmental commissions.”
Asked if it was clear when the Russian President would travel to Turkey, the Kremlin spokesman said it had not yet been decided.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan brought up the meeting of Russian President Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Zelenskiy in Turkey. The invitation comes at a time of heightened tensions in Ukraine.
