An Irish woman has “put her husband up for sale” on an auction site after he left her alone at home with her children to go fishing.
Linda McAlister, who lives in New Zealand with her husband John and their two children, said John would “remain loyal as long as he is given food and water.”
McAlister said in an ad for New Zealand’s eBay-style site TradeMe that John, 6-foot-10, 37, was a “hunter and fisherman type” and a cattle farmer.
McAlister wrote that John “can be concerned in new environments, but he is particularly good at soothing himself.” The ad continued:
The sale is final, no refunds or exchanges are made.
The couple married in Ireland in 2019 and have two sons: Colt, 4, and Ryder, 6.
McAlister, who now lives in Rangitīkei, decided to auction off John, who went fishing on school holidays.
McAlister told Stuff that during the holidays, the children’s bedtime “gradually shifted”, which made him “crazy.”
McAlister, who also wrote in the ad that his wife was “well educated” and had “several former owners,” also described John as “hard to catch” but “good with travel.”
McAlister added that his wife, who was “confident he would make good money,” was “eagerly following” the advert.
The auction reached 100 New Zealand dollars (about $900) before being removed by TradeMe because it violated the site’s terms and conditions.
James Ryan, TradeMe’s director of policy and compliance, said on the auction site that this was the first time someone had put their spouse up for sale.
“While we love to see New Zealanders having fun, ultimately our priority is to ensure that all our members have a great experience on our website,” Ryan told Stuff.
