Guterres shared a message on the issue on his X social media account.

Recalling that “as a result of the horrific Israeli airstrikes, World Central Kitchen (WCK) workers were killed in Gaza”, Guterres said, “With this, the number of humanitarian workers killed in this conflict has reached 196.”

Guterres stated that 175 of them were UN personnel and that the killing of humanitarian aid workers was unconscionable.

Murder of WCK employees

Employees of the international aid organization WCK were killed in an Israeli attack on the Deir al-Balah area in Gaza yesterday.

WCK, headquartered in the US capital Washington, said in a statement that 7 employees were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza.

In the statement, it was stated that the employees who lost their lives were of Australian, Polish, UK, US-Canadian and Palestinian nationalities, and that the team was in 2 armored vehicles bearing the logo of the organization in the de-escalation zone during the attack.

“This is a tragedy. Humanitarian aid workers and civilians should never, ever be targets.”

“The army is conducting a thorough investigation at the highest level to understand the circumstances of this tragic incident,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
