The US Ambassador to Moscow, Lynne Tracy, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry and an official note was given regarding the activities of some US-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) against Russia.
In a written statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Ambassador Tracy was summoned and notified that 3 NGOs, the American Councils for International Education, Cultural Perspectives, and the Institute of International Education, were recognized as undesirable organizations.
The ministry underlined that these organizations operating in Russia, with the support of the US Embassy, aim to recruit agents of influence for the implementation of anti-Russian programs and projects under the guise of education and cultural exchanges.
The ministry said that an official note was sent to Ambassador Tracy, requesting that all support for these organizations be terminated and that the US Embassy remove from its official website and social media accounts the list of educational projects and programs run by these NGOs that aim to promote attitudes and values foreign to Russian society.
“Sanctions, up to and including the expulsion as persona non grata of US Embassy employees involved in attempts to interfere in Russia’s internal affairs, including subversive actions and the spread of disinformation in the context of elections and special military operations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry warned.
